How to Calculate Body Fat Percentage for Women

Body fat percentage is always an issue of concern in women especially bearing in mind that their bodies’ physiology makes them more prone to excessive fat deposition in their tissues.

This masterpiece gives you an insight on how to calculate body fat percentage in women by use of Hugo Rivera’s circumference formula.

Hugo Rivera’s circumference formula considers total body weight, abdominal circumference around the belly button, wrist circumference, hip circumference and fore arm circumference with all these circumferences measured at their widest points.

To get the lean body weight, take (Body weight x 0.732 + 8.987) + (Wrist circumference x 3.14) – (Waist circumference x 0.157) – (Hip circumference x 0.249) + (Fore arm circumference x 0.434). This will give you the lean body weight.

To get the body fat weight, take the total body weight measurement minus the lean body weight obtained. To convert the body fat weight into percentage, take the body fat weight obtained, divide by the total body weight and then multiply by 100.

This will give you the body fat weight percentage. Please note that SI standard units of measurement should be used in all calculations which may necessitate conversion of various units into SI units of measurement.

Ways On How To Measure Body Fat Percentage

Fats are essential for the right functioning of the various body organs. There are health accepted fat levels which differ according to sex. Too much of fat can cause obesity and fats below the essential level may cause malfunction of body organs. Body fat percentage is the amount of fat in the body in comparison to all the body tissues. It may be tricky to get the correct fat levels in your body but regular fats measures show the progress in fat levels no matter what method is used.

When considering how to measure body fat percentage, there are requirements needed by almost every method used. They include; sex, age, hip circumference, waist circumference, weight, wrist circumference, forearm circumference and age. The variables are then input in a body fat calculator and the computation of the percentage done. You must remember to check your sex. Accumeasure body fat caliper is used to measure fat levels according to the skin thickness on a caliper scale.

For interpretation, for a man the acceptable levels are between 10-31 percent. 10% is the least essential fat and 31% is the maximum level acceptable. For men the acceptable range is between 2-25 percent.
